FAQ for Just4Fun

Just4Fun servers are not showing in-game?

Can’t see the Just4Fun servers in the in-game browser? FIRST - Check that you have not filtered any servers, bring up the filter menu and check carefully. SECOND - Check that you are using the correct server browser tab in-game. The SERVER BROWSER shows all LICENSED servers (Just4Fun Public #1 & #2) and the CUSTOM browser shows unlicensed servers - Just4Fun Events and Training Otherwise, it's a known issue that affects all servers - this may help... https://offworldindustries.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/234684847-Server-Browser-Issues What often works is if you use the server search (bottom left) and type 'just4' then it should locate it. How do I get some training ?

J4F members get full access to training facilities. This includes one to one and group training on any aspect of the game ranging from the absolute basics to advanced squad leading and advanced tactics. Want to develop a particular skill set? Want to master the machine gunner? Want to train for an upcoming event? Then book a training session today! All training is conducted on our dedicated training server. If you are interested please contact @trainingmanager in our Discord for more information.

Maps - Can we change the rotation?

So many popular servers run a very limited set of maps (one, in the top 5 UK runs 7 maps!). There are 240+ maps variations within Squad, if you include RAAS, AAS, INS, Skirmish etc. Every survey that clans and others have done has shown no clear preference for certain maps. So at Just4Fun, we run random maps. From the 220 + available the server will choose a random map at every change. We have reduced some less popular modes (i.e. We eliminate "Total Control" gameplay maps and reduce insurgency and destruction game modes), but otherwise you will get the GREATEST variety of maps on the J4F server.

Do you run events ?

Oh yes!

We have a dedicated events coordinator team who is always busy planning our events calendar.

We have a dedicated events server for our members, and we experiment with plain and themed events to suit everyone.
Please let us know if you would like a specific type of event. Contact @eventsmanager in our Discord.

Locked Squads - Why allow them?

We have debated this several times at J4F. Any SL is free to kick anyone from their squad, so if we have a rule which forbids locked squads then you will find that SL's that only want their clan members or their mates in their squad will just continually kick players until they get the squad they want. The result of that will be disgruntled kicked squad members swearing at people, arguing in chat and team killing, as they don't understand why they were kicked, which then generates a very high admin overhead trying to manage this.

Can I book my own event ?

If you are a registered member of J4F then as long as you have 50+ hours play with us then you can book your own event for you and other regulars. Please contact the @eventsmanager in Discord or the contact Just4Fun page on this web site for more details. For anyone else, we offer server hire on our web site.

Do you hire server time ?

Yes we do, at very reasonable prices. Please go to https://www.j4f.uk/server-hire

A VISITOR is anyone who has joined our Discord. A MEMBER is someone who has completed our regular registration and wants to be a part of our community. A CONTRIBUTOR is someone who is donating monthly to our server costs

What are Sponsor Perks?

For all monthly sponsors who contribute $5 or more a month (about £3.57) they will get the ability to use reserved slots to save queuing. BUT.... we don't want you to sponsor us for the perks, we want you to contribute to a community your enjoy and want to maintain!

Why do I queue as a sponsor?

As a sponsor, you have access to the Just4Fun reserved slots. On our public servers we have 2 reserved slots. So for our 100 slot servers, 2 reserved slots means that the maximum number of players is 98. At 98 if a sponsor attempts to join they will use one of the reserved slots making it 99 players, with 1 reserved slot.
When any player leaves, the count will reduce to 98 and available reserved will go back to 2. When the server is at 98 players, should two sponsors join at the same time, then sponsors joining after that will have to wait until a player leaves. This should happen VERY rarely. Sponsors will always be first in the queue for the next available slot, regardless of the queue length and when they started queueing. If you are a sponsor and ever get any issues queuing then let us know.

What is seeding?

Seeding is a process where regulars of a server get onto an empty server to make it attractive for others to join, thus boosting the numbers. Very few people will join an empty server, Some will join a server with 10-20 players, Loads of players will join a server with > 40 players. So seeding is when dedicated regulars play on a nearly empty server to boost the numbers, encourage others to join, get it full and then enjoy some great games! It's hard work as most players just skip to whatever server has > 50 players and a good ping!

Why do J4F allow locked squads?

It is the lesser of two evils. If we banned locked squads, then the following would happen: 1) SL’s who just want their ‘own’ people in the squad would simply kick anyone who joins that they don’t want. 2) A SL waiting for friends to join would allow you to join, you would then select the kit that you want, walk into battle and then get kicked when their friend turns up. 3) SL’s would kick at random times, leaving you with a recruit kit in the middle of nowhere. 4) A large number of players react badly to being kicked form a squad, complaining a lot in chat and often team killing the SL concerned. 5) Lastly even if we limited locked squads to, say, armour or training, it’s way too high an admin overhead to police and check that this rule was being followed. So regrettably, it is easier to allow locked Squads. (But we still dont like them!)

Why are there squad leaders without mics or SL kit?

At J4F our rules say that an SL should have an SL kit. We generally only enforce this if: 1) Players within that squad are unhappy that their SL does not have a kit
2) There are several SL's without kit and it is affecting gameplay
3) The SL concerned has just done this to get a specific kit, like marksman, HAT etc
4) The SL concerned is causing other issues. Why do we take this more laid back approach? Well, the problem is with so many new players, and the fact that many players dont want to SL, if we enforced it, we just end up harassing or kicking people who dont understand, or moving the SL kit problem to another player who does not want to do it. Very often if an issue is raised, our admins will join that squad and ask them if there is an issue and whether the squad would like to nominate an SL to do the job, if they are all happy and no-one wants to do the job, then we leave them alone. It generally does not adversely affect gameplay for others. We do enforce the SL should have a MIC rule more often, as most players do want their SL to communicate with them and command.

Do J4F have main camping rules?

The OWI devs (makers of the game) put in an exclusion zone to safeguard all main bases. Every main base has at least two exits. Teams can easily defend main bases / get rid of those attacking, it just takes co-ordination. If a team attacks the other main they get distracted from the real objectives.
Rear defence is important in Squad - If you have main campers, then your rear defence has failed. Main camping rules are unnecessary and confuse new (and old!) players - which is why J4F do not have them.

Why wont you tell me why my friend has been banned?

Sorry but we only discuss bans/kicks and other personal data with the account owner that they are attached to. J4F are proud to be GDPR compliant, and this protects every players personal data. If the account holder wishes to enquire about or appeal their ban then they can do so via our web site at https://www.j4f.uk

I have a question that is not answered here.

Please open a ticket in our Discord using #PAGE-THE-ADMINS and we will happily discuss this with you. Or, use the contact menu on this web site.
