FAQ for Techncal Issues

The Just4Fun Servers are not showing in-game?

Can’t see the Just4Fun servers in the in-game browser? FIRST - Check that you have not filtered any servers, bring up the filter menu and check carefully. SECOND - Check that you are using the correct server browser tab in-game. The SERVER BROWSER shows all LICENSED servers (Just4Fun Public #1 & #2) and the CUSTOM browser shows unlicensed servers - Just4Fun Events and Training Otherwise, it's a known issue that affects all servers - this may help... https://offworldindustries.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/234684847-Server-Browser-Issues What often works is if you use the server search (bottom left) and type 'just4' then it should locate it. Why does Squad crash when I start or load into a map?

So many things can cause this. These are programs known to interfere with Squad: Seagate Disctools ASUS Utilities (Everything) Realplayer Nortons Spybot Search n Destroy Splashtop Bonjour If you don't have any of these then:
1) Verify game files in Steam 2) Delete your game cache 3) Deinstall Squad and Steam (nuclear option) 4) Update your graphic drivers 5) Set graphics options to minimum 6) Disable motherboard audio if using soundcard 7) Disable power management

Why isnt my Mic working?

Squad does not like mic's being initialised or turned on/off while the game is running. There are a number of other resolutions if that does not solve your issue: https://offworldindustries.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/221596087-Troubleshooting-Audio-Issues

Error: Server Closed Connection?

It's a bug, happens to most players about once a week or so - rejoining again usually works. But this message will also be displayed to all players if a server crashes, EAC (Easy Anti Cheat) causes a client error, or Steam fails. You should get it no more than once a week with heavy play.

Why do my game settings reset to default ?

Whenever OWI release a new version of Squad, it changes all settings back to the default. There is now an option in Squad to save your settings to that you can restore them after an update. Or you can do it manually: Under Linux go to: /home/username/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/393380/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Local Settings/Application Data/SquadGame/Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor/ Under Windows go to either directory: C:\Users[username]\AppData\Local\Squad\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor %LOCALAPPDATA%\Squad\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor Backup the following files: GameUserSettings.ini Input.ini

If you have a mouse with a thumb button this would be a good place to access the map. Or use TAB or any other key you can access without moving away from WASD too much. Lean keys: use Q to lean right, E to lean left - makes it easier to strafe at the same time.

Do You Have a Quick Fix for Performance Issues ?

Difficult subject - but try this to start: Some updates may change menu settings, graphic options, etc., and sometimes it is best to start with a clean slate. Press “Empty Cache” in the Game Settings to reset everything to defaults. This will delete all of your keybinds, settings, etc. Alternatively, you can reset all Squad settings manually by deleting everything in the following folder. (Make a backup of everything you’re going to delete first): Under Linux: /home/username/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/393380/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Local Settings/Application Data/SquadGame/ Under Windows: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Squad\

I Am Getting Sudden FPS Drops and/or Stuttering ?

Try #1: If you get bad framerate after loading into a map or changing graphics settings, try opening the console and typing in HighResShot 1. This command takes screenshots at a high resolution, which apparently causes some sort of a soft graphical reload that can solve the performance issue. If this doesn’t bring improvement, increase the number by one (e.g. HighResShot 2, HighResShot 3, etc). Strangely, HighResShot 1, HighResShot 2, and HighResShot 4 fix this issue on my end. Whereas HighResShot 3 causes bad FPS drops. Your mileage may vary. Every time you execute HighResShot, a screenshot is being saved into the folder below. If you set the “Screenshots” folder to read-only, you don’t have to remember to delete these screenshots. Under Linux: /home/username/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/393380/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Local Settings/Application Data/SquadGame/Saved/Screenshots/ Under Windows: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Squad\Saved\Screenshots\ Try #2: Clear your shader cache. Before doing so, exit Squad. Under Linux: Delete everything in this folder: /home/username/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/shadercache/393380/ You can also use a cronjob to do this automatically every night or week. There is also a way to disable Shader Pre-Caching in Steam under Settings > Shader Pre-Caching. You can test if turning these options off will enhance performance. Under Windows: Open your Explorer, right-click on the drive you have Windows installed. Click on Properties. Go to the General tab. Click Disk Cleanup. Mark the DirectX Shader Cache tickbox and confirm. Under Windows, you can also clear the NVIDIA shader cache Go to your NVIDIA control panel > Manage 3D Settings > turn off Shader Cache and hit Apply. Reboot your PC. Go to %username%\AppData\Local\Temp\NVIDIA Corporation\NV_Cache and delete the contents of the folder (You can paste that address directly into a Windows address bar). Go back to your NVIDIA control panel > Manage 3D Settings > turn On Shader Cache and hit Apply. Once you start Squad the game may stutter for a moment while the cache is being rebuilt, but this should only take a few seconds.

Should I Do Anything After An Update ?

After every Squad update or if you experience performance issues, clear your shader cache.

I Still Have Performance Issues !

If you experience any performance issues, check the integrity of Squad’s files. In Steam go to Library > right-click on Squad > Settings > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files This usually takes a few minutes.
